Sunthru LLC was established in 2013 to bring monolithic aerogels to the window market. Our competitive advantage is our ability to make monolithic aerogels in a one-step, short-cycle process. Typically, aerogel monoliths are manufactured in a multi-step process that may take several days. Ours is just a few hours from raw materials to finished product.
This capability is based on a patented process developed at Union College in Schenectady, NY, and licensed by Sunthru (Gauthier et al., Anderson et al., Carroll et al.). After participating in the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (NSF I-Corps) program, two of the original inventors (Anderson and Carroll) and a retired research engineer from GE (Keramati, now retired) pooled their resources to found Sunthru. In 2020, two Union College Aerogel Lab alumni (Costa and Forti) joined Sunthru.
